Does Self Hypnosis Work
The short answer is yes. Self-hypnosis is one of the most powerful methods of growth, change, and healing that is available today.
When self-hypnosis does not work, it is usually an issue of improper practice or improper expectations on the part of the practitioner (which is understandable given the bold claims made by some products).
There are many effective healing methods out there, but it is very challenging (even with traditional, 'tried and true' methods) to measure whether it is the healing system itself, or simply the placebo effect.
The placebo effect is the tendency for the deeper parts of your mind to heal you (or allow complete healing to occur) when they think it is time for the healing to occur. It is frequently measured by giving one group a new drug/pill designed to heal whatever sickness or problem the group is experiencing, and giving a second group with the same problem a sugar pill (or placebo) that looks identical to the real pill. Both groups are told that they are receiving the 'real' drug. In these tests, the placebo group often gets the same or better results than the group that actually receives the real drug.
Depending on the study, the placebo effect has been found to be as effective as morphine in 47% to 94% of cases. Let that sink in for a moment. The power of the deeper parts of your mind is great enough to replicate the pain-killing effect of morphine with no actual drugs being taken. If that does not cause you to stop and really think about the power of your mind, then you have not really understood it, yet.
Self-hypnosis is the study and practice of getting in touch with and learning to guide those deeper parts of your mind. On the other hand, you could say self-hypnosis is simply harnessing the power of the placebo effect. Self-hypnosis has been used effectively to eliminate stress and anxiety, achieve goals quickly, heal physical pain, speed physical healing, and even to give pain-free birth without the use of anesthetics. Self-hypnosis is probably best known for helping people lose weight and stop smoking.
Effective practitioners of self-hypnosis lead 'charmed' lives. They tend to get more of what they want, they tend to enjoy their lives more, and they tend to be highly appreciated by other people. In short, you can become incredibly powerful and influential with the proper application of self-hypnosis.
In order to practice effective self-hypnosis, and achieve the power and influence you would like to have in your life, you need to do 3 things right now:
Set a reasonable goal for the next 30 days. Start with just one. Commit to it. Even if you only work on it for 30 days, bring yourself calmly to the mindset "I will work on this until I get the desired result or until I die." When you commit at this level, the deeper parts of your mind will quickly align to bring your vision into reality.
Sit down and have a talk with the deeper parts of yourself about it. Sit in a quiet comfortable place with no distractions. Speak with the deeper aspects of your mind as if you are calmly and lovingly explaining something to your child, spouse, friend, etc. For example "I know we do not always see eye to eye on everything, but I love you, and I know you love me. I am serious about achieving this goal, and I know that with your help, it will happen. Thank you for all that you do!"
Take a few minutes to relax every day (starting today)… mentally come back to the goal, visualize it in vivid detail, and as you go about your daily life and move towards the goal, continue to relax around any challenges that arise. Allow your relaxed vision of where you want to be give you the flexibility to move over or around any apparent obstacles that come up.
In 30 days, take note of how far you have come. Congratulate yourself, and then set your new 30 day goal.
The short answer is yes. Self-hypnosis is one of the most powerful methods of growth, change, and healing that is available today.
