It would seem that most weeks there is an article some place or another highlighting that a celebrity has visited a hypnotherapist for weight loss, or stopping smoking, or perhaps to gain a sporting edge or to cure a phobia. Whatever a celebrity does always creates media attention, but when a famous person sees a hypnotherapist the media circus escalates and it frequently creates front page news. Why is this? Is hypnotherapy really perceived as THAT unusual?
Hypnotherapy is still seen by many as a bit off-beat, even though it is a perfectly normal and natural art, just as yoga or meditation is normal and natural. Paul McKenna has done a fantastic job in promoting the value of hypnotherapy to the everyday person. He began his hypnotic career as a stage hypnotist which made a lot of people aware of the powerfulness of hypnosis; whilst over recent years McKenna has focused his attention on promoting its therapeutic benefits, turning his back on the stage hypnotist's arena, even referring to his stage career as his "past life".
