Hypnotist Song
Hypnotists are pretty common commodities on the Las Vegas scene. In fact, they come a dime a dozen. No matter where you venture in Sin City, you're bound to find some guy waving his pocket watch around, telling you that you're getting sleepy. However, Anthony Cools, a raunchier, livelier hypnotist, does things a little bit differently.
Currently playing at the Paris Las Vegas on Las Vegas Boulevard, Cools ups the ante of hypnotism with his widely popular show, Anthony Cools – The Uncensored Hypnotist. He makes a good living by taking something so common and adding a touch of knee-slapping comedy and R-rated absurdity.
A warning for people thinking of attending Cools' "uncensored" show: Do not show up if you're easily embarrassed. Some of the things Anthony gets his volunteers to do on the stage help give credence to the "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" cliched saying. However, guests know what they're in store for, and it's all done in "clean" fun.
The adult-themed show is a no-holds-barred romp from start to finish. When attendees are being seated, the first thing they usually notice is the "You will be a star tonight" sign hanging on the stage. Simply put, this alerts every audience member that volunteers are wanted.
In many respects, The Uncensored Hypnotist is only as good as the audience members are willing; but, with the name recognition Anthony Cools has gained in his career, a lot of people end up attending just in hopes of being selected as one of the volunteers to be hypnotized.
It takes a brave soul to get on that stage, knowing that Cools and everyone else watching is going to have a great laugh at their expense. But Vegas really seems to bring that out of people, and as Natalie – the show's hostess – sums it up, the show is extremely loud, raw and adult in nature.
Regardless of how raunchy things seem, it's important to remember that hypnotism is certainly an art. Before the show really gets started, Anthony comes out on stage and breaks into what appears to be a routine. This is purely to size the audience up, though, by finding out which of the audience members would make the perfect test subjects.
The result is a great opening act that ends up being hilarious – but it's certainly not the heart of the show. Once the energetic opening is concluded, Cools tells the audience that drinking, drug use or an unwillingness to be hypnotized will result in disqualification. As far as the volunteers go, everyone's free to walk up on stage and take a seat.
The show begins as soon as the empty seats are taken, and Cools asks the audience to be silent to let the hypnotism begin. Once hypnotized, he has every member immediately start playing a non-existent instrument to prove their worth.
From this point, it continues to get hotter and heavier. Cools has his volunteers doing some truly outrageous things, like making love to a chair in the center of the stage and feeling as if their most private parts are on fire. It's an R-rated comedy spectacular that's sure to convince every skeptic that hypnotism is real.
